For carers

A carer is someone who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of a health condition, disability or frailty, and who would not be able to manage without this help. All the care they give is unpaid.

If this is you, then read on for information about being a carer and details of organisations offering further help and support.

Are you a carer?

Are you a 'carer'? Perhaps you don't know if you are a carer or not, or what this means. Find out more about what a carer is, and what being a carer of someone with epilepsy may mean.

Support for carers

We understand that being a carer can be both rewarding and stressful. If you would like to talk to someone about how you feel, find out about what help is available to you, or make contact with other people, we can help.

The Carers Strategy

The Department of Health's Carers Strategy sets out the coalition government's vision for supporting carers. Find out more here.

Carers project

A report on our 2011 carers project is available now. The project, which centred on people who care for someone with epilepsy, gave us an opportunity to seek the views and experiences of carers of people with epilepsy and focus on their information and support needs.

Carers organisations

There are many carer-specific organisations which provide information and support. Find out more about some of these organisations, and what they do, here.
