Anti-epileptic drugs linked to increased risk of suicidal thoughts

An increase in the risk of suicidal behaviour and thoughts was identified in placebo-controlled clinical trials of anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs).

Following its analysis of reports indicating a link between suicidal behaviour and thoughts and AEDs, the US Food and Drug Administration has instructed manufacturers of AEDs to carry a warning on their labelling and to provide patients with a medication guide about the risks.
