Professor Neil Burgess was elected a fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
Professor John Duncan was appointed to the Neurology committee of the Commission for Human Medicines at the MHRA, and to the group revising the NICE Epilepsy guidelines. In addition, he was invited to be an external assessor for the Neurodis Foundation in Lyon.
The poster prize at the Annual meeting of the British Neuropathological Society was won by George Hadjivassiliou (BSc student Neuropathology): Cortical Layer Markers in the diagnosis of Focal Cortical Dysplasias in Epilepsy. Professor Matthias Koepp was appointed Secretary of the ILAE Commission on "Diagnostic Methods" and Chair of the
'Neuroimaging Taskforce', as well as Chair of the 'Clinical Investigator Workshop-Organising Committee' of the American Epilepsy Society. He is also part of INSERM‟s external assessment panel.
Loes Koorenhof won the UK ILAE 2009 Health Professionals Essay Prize.
Professor Dmitri Rusakov was appointed to the AERES Committee (France).
Professor Ley Sander was named recipient of the American Epilepsy Society 2009 Clinical Science Award, and was appointed to the ILAE Epidemiology Commission and to the ILAE Task Force on the Treatment Gap.
Professor Sanjay Sisodiya was appointed to the ILAE Genetics Commission.
Jason Stretton was awarded second place in the UK ILAE 2009 Health Professionals Essay Prize.
Dr Maria Thom was invited to join the ILAE commission on Diagnostic Methods in the Task Force on Cortical Dysplasias in Epilepsy.
