Risk assessments
Epilepsy affects people differently. People who have their seizures controlled with medication may not face any particular risks to their safety. The risks to safety from having seizures will depend on the person’s type of seizures; what happens to the person during a seizure; and how the person feels afterwards. Some people may not want to put safety measures in place, however it can be important to get a balance between making situations safer and freedom of choice.
Our epilepsy risk assessment forms (available to download below) are designed to be used by individuals with epilepsy and also alongside the health and social care professionals involved in managing their care, where appropriate. The forms focus on what the individual risks may be because of someone’s seizures, risks associated with living conditions (around the home), and risks associated with activities outside of the home.
