manyLives - managing the epilepsies

manyLives – managing the epilepsies is an educational resource for professionals involved in the treatment and management of the epilepsies.

manyLives combines interviews with nine professionals working within the field of epilepsy, with footage of epileptic seizures, useful practical tools that can be printed from a PC or Mac, and footage of the entire interview with each of the professionals presented in a tutorial style.

manyLives is presented in DVD format on 3 easy-to-navigate disks, the feature programme includes sub titles in Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, Urdu, German,  French, Spanish, Italian  and English

“This project highlights the importance of those with epilepsy working with their professional advisors who may include neurologists, general practitioners, nurses, psychologists, social workers, neurosurgeons and psychiatrists and many more, to work out the best treatment plan to try to control their epilepsy and to make the most of their lives.” John Duncan

“I was happy to be involved in this programme because I see many people whose epilepsy could have been treated better. Epilepsy is a condition met by all physicians and it is only through education that we are going to improve epilepsy treatment.” Matthew Walker

“I am delighted to be involved with such an important piece of work. This project will be very
useful in helping people understand the condition and should assist them in forging a closer relationship  between individuals and their GPs and specialists.” Henry Smithson

“I was very happy to have the opportunity to discuss the importance of the contribution made by epilepsy specialist nurses who are now accepted to as an essential part of the epilepsy team” Anthony Linklater

“Epilepsy in childhood can be challenging in its management – enhancing education
about the subject is key to advancing services” Helen Cross

“Despite accounting for up to a quarter of the population seen in clinics for people with epilepsy, people with a learning disability are often invisible to those who organise care.
Their complex epilepsy whilst a challenge can, when treatment works, also offer real rewards
to patients, carers and professionals. manyLives will I hope offer some more visibility to this
important group.” Mike Kerr

“It is important that individuals are treated as individuals and are empowered through the provision of information to make individual choices in the management of their condition.” Jim Morrow

“Older people are now numerically the largest group of people with epilepsy, have special needs and have been neglected both in research and clinical services. For this reason I am delighted to have been involved in this project.” Raymond Tallis

“This programme is about empowering the patient to take control of and responsibility for their condition. A collaborative approach between people with epilepsy and professionals offers a powerful tool for managing the condition and enhancing life opportunities.” Kevin O’Shea
