Is there an archive available for older forum posts? I was trying to find an old discussion that isn't in the current database.

Hi Bernard,

Highly unlikely - the software used to run this forum automatically deletes threads if there's been no activity on them after so many weeks.

This ensures the forum doesn't take up too much space on NSE's web site overall.

I would be surprised if they do keep a serperate archive anywhere else.

Its a shame they dont store certain topics especially drug related ones which keep coming up on a regular basis. I once seen 3 topic headings for Tegretol on the same page for the same thing. It happens with other things aswell. Couldn't we have sticky posts for drug related topics eg tegretol, keppra etc so if anyone has a question on a drug they can just click on the topic and see if they can find the answer first rather than ask the same thing. I'm sure nobody minds repeating themselves but it does get a bit repititious sometimes. Its like my Topiramate topic. I could have started a few new ones with the diferent problems and excitements I had with this drug but I stuck with the same thread to save space. Why cant others do that. Or make a sticky for the diferent drugs. Only an idea! :D

I see what you're saying Rob, but it begs the question, how many pages could be filled with stickies about the major topics that come up time and again?

A good idea, but probably unworkable in practice - NSE's funds are focused primarily on providing serivces, which are expensive by their very nature, so little cash is left to run things like this forum.

Of course it does beg the question is there some sort of financial help we, the users, could provide NSE with?

I wouldn't go anywhere near a complusory subscription as that would exclude people who couldn't afford it.

But could there be an easy way to make the odd donation here or there, to enable NSE to bulk up their server space to allow for more archiving and/or stiky threads?

If the cost could be worked out we maybe just do a one-off fundraiser or something?

some sites do a blood donor donation scheme where you can donate money to the site to help run it and improve things. You have the name blood donor or site donor under your username then. something worth looking at Dave. :D

What would I do? I can't give blood. Oh, I know. I could send in a normal cash donation.
Which is exactly what we can do already.

No Dave, you dont give actual blood. You gave money. For some reason they termed it has " blood donor". Dont ask me why, it was an English run site!!!!!

:(

Thanks for the info. Sorry to hear that autopruning is in effect. There were some really valuable old discussions here that I would reference (ie. link to) from time to time, but now it appears that I will have to stop doing so.

Hard drive space is cheap. The MySQL database for CWE isn't even close to 1% of the space available to me on my server. I'd be surprised if the NSE is really having issues with this.

Could you send a request to TPTB to re-evaluate the need for autopruning? Perhaps the NSE could create a forum room where threads of high value could be moved and auto-pruning is not active?

Hopefully Emma who runs the whole website for NSE will pop in here and read this thread - I don't know enough about these technical things to say either way, just what I have heard and/or am second guessing.
