Epilepsy Society research into SUDEP
Genetic research can provide insights into sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) by identifying genes that increase the risk in certain individuals.
Our research team is about to start a study of people looking at those who could be at risk of SUDEP due to epilepsy and cardiovascular complications compared to DNA samples, donated for research, from people who have died from SUDEP.
It is hoped this research may provide vital clues as to who is at risk from SUDEP and offer those individuals a chance to take potentially life-saving preventative measures.
