Become a regional services volunteer
Could you spare some time to give information and support to people with epilepsy in your community or help us deliver our schools awareness programme to children in your local schools?
Epilepsy Society is keen to recruit volunteers to its expanding regional services, which aims to provide local access to information about epilepsy, raise awareness and change attitudes.
There are several roles available. As a volunteer, you will receive training to increase your knowledge of epilepsy and to give you confidence to carry out the roles available.
You might choose to train as an information volunteer in a hospital clinic. To carry out this role, which will require a regular time commitment, you will be a good listener, have good interpersonal skills and have a desire to help others with their information needs.
Awareness raising
If you have less time available you might like to help with awareness raising events or talks. You will be trained in the skills required to talk to people about epilepsy and use your excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills to provide information and dispel the myths around epilepsy.
Confidence and the desire to interact with children is required to talk in schools about epilepsy. Currently we have a programme aimed at key stage 3 year 8 (12/13 year olds) and we also produce presentations to meet various needs in infants and junior schools.
