Complex epilepsy: health or physical needs
Many of our clients have very complex epilepsy combined with a physical disability and/or learning disability of varying degrees. Invariably, this client group will have other co-morbidities and require comprehensive care and support from our expert medics, nurses and care staff.
Few care homes have the expertise to cope with this client group. We have developed specialist knowledge in this area and our services and care homes are designed to a high specification to be able to provide the very best care to our clients.
We provide 24 hour medical care and have immediate access to a team of neurologists and nurses with specific expertise in epilepsy as well as good general medical knowledge. This level of medical intervention can help to prevent unnecessary hospital admission for our clients who would otherwise spend many wasted hours in accident and emergency departments as a result of seizure activity and/or resulting injuries. We also provide a ‘rapid response’ team of doctors and nurses that can respond to any medical emergency.
We have a multidisciplinary approach to the care of people with epilepsy, recognising that other allied health professions such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and speech and language therapists each have a role to play in maintaining the health, safety and quality of life of our clients. We also recognise the importance of therapies, including music and art therapy and sensory and massage therapy.
We provide a comprehensive service for all of our clients with complex needs.
