In response to the article, Professor John Duncan said: "It is well recognised that alcohol can damage the brain, and it is also well known that brain damage may lead to the development of epilepsy. This study indicates that alcohol abuse during pregnancy  can be associated with the child developing epilepsy, and is  a further reason for the pregnant mother to not take alcohol during pregnancy."
