NSE statement on new medical assessments for Disability Living Allowance

The government has announced that from 2013 it will be introducing independent medical assessments for the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) which will affect new and existing claimants.

The National Society for Epilepsy (NSE) has been contacted by a number of people with epilepsy voicing their concerns about how this will affect them.

At the moment the criteria for assessment are not clear. Epilepsy is a complex condition which affects people in many different ways. NSE believes that assessments should be carried out by a professional with a thorough understanding of those complexities .

As the UK's leading medical epilepsy charity we will work to ensure that people with epilepsy are fairly represented.
