EIN regional activities

The epilepsy information network (EIN) is at the heart of our national outreach programme to provide support and information to people with epilepsy, their families and carers at a local level at the time of diagnosis and beyond.

What do we do?

The epilepsy information network (EIN) aims to meet the needs of people with epilepsy in three ways:

  1. Providing local access to information about epilepsy for people with epilepsy, their families and carers
We have set up epilepsy information service points in neurology departments in hospitals and other healthcare settings across the country.

Volunteers give their time to provide local knowledge and information on non-medical matters to anyone with an interest in epilepsy within their own communities, allowing professionals to concentrate their time on medical issues.

  2. Raising awareness of issues relating to epilepsy in the local community
Generally, people are unaware of how complex epilepsy is or the issues related to living with epilepsy. With the help of trained volunteers, the EIN aims to raise awareness by:
    • holding epilepsy awareness days in public places, such as libraries and shopping centres
    • taking part in disability awareness raising sessions
    • giving presentations to groups of people in the community
    • holding local seminars for employers

  3. Changing attitudes through education
We have developed a number of education programmes:
    • working with local authorities to provide information and presentations to school children and students
    • running a schools awareness programme, aimed at year 8 pupils, to increase understanding of epilepsy among young people
    • running programmes for younger children, tailor-made to meet school requirements
