‘Green’ light bulbs not considered a problem

With the news that a European ban on the manufacture and import of old style 100 watt light bulbs has now come into force, the National Society for Epilepsy would like to allay  fears that the replacement low-energy light bulbs could trigger epileptic seizures .  NSE’s medical director Professor John Duncan says there is no evidence linking flickering from the bulbs to epilepsy. “There is no foundation for these fears,” he stressed, “and no reason to suggest the bulbs may trigger seizures.”

Traditional light bulbs are set to disappear for good from 2012 after the government signed up to a European directive to replace them with ‘greener’, fluorescent alternatives.
