MP Cheryl Gillan visits Epilepsy Society

MP Cheryl Gillan is visiting Epilepsy Society today (May 15) as one of her first engagements since being re elected.The Chesham and Amersham MP is a Vice President of the charity and her visit coincides with the start of National Epilepsy Week on Sunday (May 17).

During her visit the MP will meet Epilepsy Society's head of genetics research, Professor Sanjay Sisodiya.  The work of the genetics team was highlighted by Mrs Gillan  in a parliamentary debate about epilepsy earlier this year.

Scientific discoveries

Speaking at the debate Mrs Gillan said:  'Epilepsy Society's researchers have been central to new scientific discoveries , in particular research that demonstrates the breadth of genetic influences in epilepsy.'

Mrs Gillan will tour the charity's new research facilities and hear from Angela Geer, Epilepsy Society's chief executive, about the Society's ambitious new vision to leverage its medical research strength to revolutionise how epilepsy is diagnosed and treated.
