Charities launch 'epic' awareness raising campaign in National Epilepsy Week

This week is National Epilepsy Week (15-21 May) and to mark it, fashion giant River Island has joined forces with two of the UK’s leading epilepsy charities, Epilepsy Society and Young Epilepsy, to help raise awareness of the condition.

This is the fourth year that the charities and fashion chain have worked together on their 'Everyone knows someone' campaign which encourages people to talk and learn more about this misunderstood condition.

Epilepsy affects 1 in 100 people in the UK and 87 people are diagnosed with the neurological condition every day.

Win £100 worth of River Island vouchers

The slogan for this year's campaign, chosen by a group of 18-30 year-olds with epilepsy, is 'Be epic'. During National Epilepsy Week, River Island is giving away free 'Be epic' shopping bags with all online orders, while stocks last. There is also a chance to win £100 worth of River Island vouchers by taking part in a daily competition on the Everyone Knows Someone website (

Mark Woodruff, communities and charities manager at River Island, said: 'River Island is happy to support Young Epilepsy, Epilepsy Society and the Everyone Knows Someone campaign. We are thrilled that the epilepsy community have chosen ‘Be Epic’ as the 2016 bag name and we are proud to support such a worthwhile cause.'
