River Island epilepsy awareness raising campaign

River Island – the high street fashion retailer - is supporting leading epilepsy charities, Epilepsy Society and Young Epilepsy with an online awareness raising campaign. From Monday February 11 River Island customers will receive a free ‘Everyone knows someone’ wristband with their online order – and the chance to win £100 worth of shopping vouchers by answering an epilepsy related question. The campaign will run for a week only.

Epilepsy affects around 1 in 100 people in the UK.  But despite being so common it is a condition surrounded by myths and misconceptions.

Ben Lewis, chief executive at River Island said: ‘River Island is proud to support Young Epilepsy and Epilepsy Society by giving away these awareness wristbands. For one week they will be given to everyone who makes an online purchase from our store.’

Epilepsy awareness raising

Amanda Cleaver, campaigns and communications manager at Epilepsy Society added:  ‘This initiative with River Island is a great opportunity to raise awareness of epilepsy. Once you start talking about epilepsy it’s amazing how many people know someone with the condition.’

Kristy Mcleod, Head of Communications at Young Epilepsy said: ‘Young Epilepsy is thrilled to be collaborating with River Island and Epilepsy Society on this initiative. With around 1 in 100 people living with epilepsy, the chances are you know someone with the condition, but you might just not be aware of it. I’d encourage everyone to get involved and become more epilepsy aware.’
