Southend carers offered talking therapy to help cope

Charity Southend Carers and Southend on Sea Borough Council have joined forces with local NHS talking therapy service, Therapy For You, to provide support for carers in the local area.

Local carers are being given the opportunity to take part in a free, six week long Stress and Mood Management course.

Starting on 22 January, the course will look at a different topic each week, including: balanced lifestyles, stress, depression, panic and anxiety, self-esteem and accepting difficult thoughts.

Although many people in a caring role find it rewarding, for some people, being a carer can be exhausting. Emotions such as guilt, resentment or helplessness can be common.

Epilepsy Society acknowledges the difficulties people can experience when caring for a person with epilepsy, and they have strategies in place to help, including a helpline and online forum. There is also a section of their website dedicated to supporting carers.
